Prose Essay #2

  1. The areas that confuse me concerning my essay is that I am confused on how to put my evidence into my writing. Also, I have trouble taking everything and wrapping it up in my conclusion. It’s hard to take my evidence and put the right commentary with it because I have a hard time finding evidence that connects well with the abstract. When I write I have a hard time coming up with decent topic sentences, a good introduction not just a thesis and tying everything together at the end in my conclusions.
  2. After looking over my writing and the feedback about my evidence I know see how it can be vague and straightforward. I think I try to hard to embed my evidence into my sentences without just coming out and saying it, but then it gets lost in my writing or i just forget to put it. Like for example, “That said this shows how Catherine acts like a tomboy because tomboys don’t care about their looks that much and are just there to have a good time.” Looking back at that it is very vague and I just forgot to embed the quote I wanted to use and didn't put it. Also, there are places all in my essay that I only used one piece of evidence and that really brought my grade down because I didn't have enough evidence to support what i was saying. What I need to do is like the example from the website, “Although Thoreau “drink[s] at” the stream of Time, he can “detect how shallow it is.” This is evidence that connects back to the main topic and answers the question. My essay didn't have that. I need to work on how my evidence connects to what I’m writing about and how it answers what I’m writing about.
  3. Next essay I’m going to focus on my evidence and get some that connects well with what I’m writing about and how it answers the abstract. Also, I’m going to focus more on getting two pieces of evidence into each paragraph instead of just one. That will increase my grade and also it will give my answer more support for what I’m writing. I just need to understand the writing process for each type of essay and what I need to do to get my thoughts how on paper like I want them. What’s the best way to approach pre-writing an essay? How should embedded quotes look like?
